Virtua Fighter 5 REVO Brings the Series to PC After 27 Years
Sega and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio have announced that Virtua Fighter 5 REVO will be coming to Steam, marking the first PC release for the Virtua Fighter series in nearly 27 years. This upcoming release also represents the debut of Virtua Fighter 5 on PC, following its original arcade launch in 2006. The REVO edition is set to deliver significant upgrades compared to previous console versions.
The Virtua Fighter series, which began in 1993, is renowned for its groundbreaking impact on the fighting game genre, particularly through its pioneering use of 3D graphics. While critically acclaimed, the series has never reached the popularity levels of competitors like Street Fighter or Tekken. Its last mainline entry, Virtua Fighter 5, remains a classic. With Sega recently revisiting iconic franchises such as Golden Axe and Shinobi, fans had long hoped for a revival of Virtua Fighter. Sega has answered those calls by confirming a PC release for Virtua Fighter 5 REVO this winter.
Virtua Fighter 5 REVO is an enhanced remaster based on 2021’s Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown. The PC version will feature rollback netcode for smoother online play, 60 FPS gameplay, 4K resolution support, and balance adjustments. Sega aims to provide the definitive Virtua Fighter experience with this port. Although a specific release date has not been announced, the game is confirmed for a Winter 2024 launch on Steam.

The last Virtua Fighter title to appear on PC was Virtua Fighter 2.1, released in 1997. Following its arcade debut in 2006, the original Virtua Fighter 5 launched on PlayStation 3 in 2007. A later update, subtitled Final Showdown, came to Xbox and PS3 during the 2010s. In 2021, Ultimate Showdown was reimagined with Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio’s Dragon Engine, launching exclusively on PS4. Many features from Ultimate Showdown—such as character customization and costume options—will carry over into REVO.
While some fans had hoped Sega’s November announcement would reveal a new mainline entry in the series, others are thrilled that Virtua Fighter 5 is finally coming to PC. For gamers who haven’t yet experienced this iconic fighting game, Virtua Fighter 5 REVO offers the perfect opportunity to dive into the franchise’s celebrated legacy.
