Fortnite is set to launch a highly anticipated text chat feature on December 10, adding new ways for players to communicate. This update arrives alongside Chapter 6, titled "Hunters," which introduces a Japanese-themed aesthetic and fresh gameplay mechanics.

The latest chapter has been well-received by players, thanks to innovations like wall kicking and wall scrambling, which are new to Fortnite. These mechanics also include a roll feature to reduce fall damage when players drop from significant heights, enhancing overall movement options in the game.

In a report on December 9 by The Verge, Epic Games announced that Fortnite will soon support a revamped in-game text chat system. The feature will offer multiple communication options: a party channel for squad chats, a game channel for public conversations, and direct messaging for friends. Previously, Fortnite only supported voice chat and limited lobby text communication in modes like Save the World. While there were past concerns about text chat being misused, Epic has implemented safeguards to address potential issues.

The new system includes advanced chat filters to enhance player safety. A personal information filter will prevent sensitive details from being shared, and the mature language filter has been upgraded to minimize exposure to offensive language and toxicity. For players under 13, both filters will be permanently enabled. Additionally, a reporting system similar to the voice reporting tool introduced last year will allow players to report inappropriate behavior.
