World of Warcraft has officially confirmed that player housing will be introduced in the upcoming Midnight expansion, scheduled for release in 2026. Though details remain scarce, this long-awaited feature will allow players to finally customize their own personal living spaces within Azeroth.

Player housing has been a popular feature in many MMOs, enabling players to decorate and personalize their in-game homes. World of Warcraft briefly explored this concept with the introduction of Garrisons in Warlords of Draenor, but the feature fell short of many players' expectations. World of Warcraft streamers like Preach speculated that full-fledged player housing might never come to Azeroth due to the limitations of the game's systems.

However, in a surprise reveal during Blizzard's inaugural Warcraft Direct, the World of Warcraft team shocked fans by announcing that player housing would indeed be part of the Midnight expansion. Game director Ion Hazzikostas teased the feature by saying, “And speaking of home, the team does have one more thing to share with you,” before showing a short video. The clip featured a Warrior donning revamped Tier 2 Battlegear of Wrath entering a cozy, decorated chamber, complete with a "Home Sweet Home" mug and various home decorations. Developer comments on Twitter confirmed that this teaser was related to player housing in Midnight.

Although specifics on how player housing will function in World of Warcraft are limited, clues from the teaser suggest it could involve decorating homes with collectible items, such as weapons like Quel’delar, Warcraft Rumble toys, and even the mounted head of Onyxia. Whether the system will resemble the instance-based housing of Guild Wars 2 or feature public wards like Final Fantasy 14 remains to be seen, though the former seems more fitting for WoW's style.

World of Warcraft’s 2025 roadmap indicates that a formal reveal of Midnight is scheduled for next summer. This presentation will likely provide more details on the expansion's story, new zones, and the player housing system.

In addition to the Midnight housing announcement, Blizzard also revealed the release date for Patch 11.0.7, set for December 17, and teased Patch 11.1, a Goblin-themed update called Undermined. With so much on the horizon, World of Warcraft fans have much to look forward to in the coming years.
